Pulse Update: How’s the Market?
Since posting The Weekly Update a few weeks ago going over how April shaped up compared to March, the numbers were showing that there’s still an active market, even though it may be slower than normal. I wanted to see what was happening in May so far, so we can get an idea of what to look for in the summer market. The regular market update comparing May to April will be out soon, so keep an eye out for it!
Milwaukee
882 homes with accepted offers
627 homes without offers
279 sold
Racine
242 homes with accepted offers
306 homes without offers
91 sold
Kenosha
208 homes with accepted offers
245 homes without offers
77 sold
*data sourced from MetroMLS as of 05/19/20*
Overall: The sale of homes is lower, but the month hasn’t ended yet-so I do expect that number to somewhat change by the time the market update is here. However, what I found interesting is that the number of homes without accepted offers has lessened and that the number of homes with accepted offers has risen. While this is a scary time, there is definitely a spring market, and indicates that summer will be busy as well.
Adding a Garden for Summer: Tips & Tricks!
While some are using the current time in isolation to paint the house, deep clean the basement, or perhaps play some animal crossing, it’s finally getting nice outside! If you’re looking for something to do that keeps you busy but socially distant, or if you’ve ever wanted a garden but you weren’t sure where to start, we’ve got some tips below to help you out!
1. Pick the right spot. Like real estate, a garden is all about location! Where in your yard gets the best sunlight, and you can see it frequently? Can you bring your hose over easily and water it regularly? (I know for me out of sight = out of mind!) consider a few spots for where you’d want to place your garden that would fit these parameters!
2. Start with some good soil. While your backyard soil is probably fine, it doesn’t hurt to have fresh, extra soil with a lot of nutrients to help tend to those seeds! You can go to any garden center portion of a store and ask associates what they would recommend.
3. Choose the right plants. This one goes without saying but pick plants that will thrive for where you live. Now, as much as I like citrus, I realize that I don’t live in FL-and I’m not sure how well an orange tree might fare in Wisconsin. When I was a kid, popular plants were always cherry tomatoes, peas, beans, and zucchini; but do some research and see what you’d like!
4. Consider Using Pots. Of course, there’s lots of plants and flowers that you can grow in pots, and if you don’t have the space in your garden, but really want something specific (like tomatoes) a pot is the perfect thing! Make sure to talk with someone from the garden center, to find out what size you’ll need.
5. Stock up on Basic Tools. This sounds like an easy one, but I know how many times I’ve started a project and realized…oh. I don’t have (whatever item I need) here. Which means I need to go back to the store. Again. It can be a hassle, so it doesn’t hurt to double check that you’ve stocked up on all the tools!
Hopefully this helps in any gardening adventures you pursue this year!
