Coronavirus and Showings: What Should I Do?
With bars and restaurants closing, local business, and over 70 cases confirmed in the state of Wisconsin alone, it’s safe to say that the coronavirus is here. While people everywhere are taking appropriate measure to stay safe and healthy with proper handwashing (20 seconds! Like you’ve just diced jalapeños and you need to rub your eyes!) and social distancing, people are still out and ready to buy! But, with one of the biggest ways to get buyers through your home, how do you prepare?
If a showing has been requested, consistent disinfecting of commons surfaces such as door knobs, hand rails, light switches is a must. This should be done before every open house and showing, and every time you come home afterwards. For vacant properties, consider hiring a cleaning service to routinely come through the home, or ask your agent to make a note with disinfecting wipes present to ask agents to wipe down surfaces after their done.
Make sure to keep bottles of hand sanitizer by the entrance (or wipes, whatever you can find!) and booties to cover feet to try to limit what’s coming in from the outside.
When listing your home, another option to consider would be video open houses and showings. By hosting virtual tours, this limits the amount of exposure of people coming into your home. Thank goodness for modern technology! Ask any potential agents what their plan would be. What would they do? Would they use professionals? Will they go through your house multiple times to try to get more views? Consider these when interviewing agents to see who would best serve you!
With news ever changing, this could easily be outdated and quickly-right now the state has noted gatherings no larger than 10 people. But until then, consider some of the following to make any open houses and showings as safe as you can and please take all precautions needed to stay healthy.
